Secrets to ensure we achieve our mission & you achieve yours!
The Genius Team – how are we going to tap into our huge strengths, knowledge, experience so that we help you drive your business forward? Did we think about that and have you thought that through for your business yet?
Great leaders and great business tap into their strengths, understand what makes them unique and they understand and use their differences. They know that saves time and money and will make the difference in the shortest time. Are you using yours?
If we are ‘disingenuous’ we won’t do that and we will operate alone in our silo’s. The Alpha Leader at their worst – Do you do that?
I remember two leaders –a Chairman and the Chief Executive of a huge multinational who did that. It was like being amongst two male lions vying for power. They were in the same business but they were their own worst competitors destroying their business. There is enough competition out there without it coming into your team. Healthy competition is great. What’s your top team like?
It’s going to be an interesting ride a bit like being a part of Dragon’s Den – we will want your feedback. That’s the way businesses develop and become great and very successful. Do you know what your team think of you? Scary when 80% of people have problems with their Managers!
You need a clear playing field – you don’t need to find great big holes suddenly appearing – be brave and ask for feedback – then take action on it.
So to ensure we are the Genius team and we make a difference to your business we must;
- Be candid
- Be sincere
- Be brave
- Be courageous
- Be open to your feedback
So my challenge to you this week is to take a look at your business, your top team and you – because it starts with you and it will be because of you that you succeed or fail.
Do the 4 what’s;
- What are our different strengths?
- What is not working and needs to change?
- What is our Mission?
- What are YOU going to do differently now to make a difference in your business?
The most common mistake Businesses make is they do not spend enough time together, they don’t talk about what’s not working, they don’t hold one another accountable and they don’t focus on the results enough to make a difference.
So here we are a new team – a group of ‘expert’ individuals brought together by a common purpose to give something back to the industry, to help you build your businesses and be there for you.
My aim is to get you to think differently, challenge your thoughts, ideas and behaviours – because thinking drives behaviour and behaviour will drive your success or failure. What’s your thinking doing for your business?
What team problems have you got? Let’s find out what are the common problems that you are facing and let us pull on our strengths to help you now?

@Nicola. Historically I have had responsibility for over 40 staff and we have always had the same issues, communication between the members. You tend to find teams that you always have the loud ones, the shy ones, the leaders and the followers. Each of these groups has their benefits to a business if you utilise them in the right way and give them some ownership which is suitable to their particular personality traits. A word you used in your blog was ‘courageous’; now this, in my opinion, is where a lot of business owners fall down. They are frightened by the idea of telling their team exactly what the issues are and offering up a solution or plan to resolve them (solely or collectively), therefore allowing bad practice, under achievement etc. to run on unchecked.
I myself went through a similar situation where by I was responsible for a large team of long standing, under achieving recruiters who thought they ‘knew’ everything; it was quite an intimidating situation to be in as the new guy drafted in to sort out the wreckage left by a previous incumbent, but sort it out ‘we’ did.
HOW? By being 100% truthful and accurate about the actual issues collectively and on a one to one basis. The issues disappeared and the business went on from strength to strength, the area won accolade from the Directors as the best team improvement on record. How was it done, a little bit of creativity, understanding the individual’s arras of strength, true engagement, a bit of compassion, being honest and upfront and tackling issues head on.
